Read Live User Guide

Using Login As to work with remote students

Teachers can use the Login As feature, available on the Staff Module's Read Naturally Live page, to open a session as a specific student. This feature supports a variety of distance learning scenarios. For example, teachers can use Login As to grade recordings of student hot timings.

The Story Details report for any student's current story is also available on the Read Naturally Live page, allowing teachers to review a student's recent performance before conducting Pass steps using Login As.

Using the Login As Feature:
To log in as a specific student, use the Login As feature in the Staff Member Module.

  1. Go to the Read Live home page, and log into the Read Live Staff Module using your own Account ID, User ID, and password.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Waiting List or Read Naturally Live
The Waiting List page displays only those students who currently need a teacher's help in order to advance in their stories. The Read Naturally Live page allows you to open Read Live for any student with a license.
  3. Find the student for whom you need to log in.
Note that you can review a student's Current Step column to see where that student is in her or his current story. You can also click the Details button in the Current Story column to see the Story Details report with information about the student's performance in that story.
  4. In the Login As column, click the Login button for the student you want to help.
Note that if the student involved is currently logged into Read Live, the Login button is red. If you open a Login As session while a student is logged in, a warning dialog will ask you to confirm that you want to log the student out. It is important to communicate with students in order to prevent confusion during this process.
  5. The application will open a new browser tab in which you are logged in as the selected student.

After logging in as a student, a teacher can use screen sharing software to conduct Pass activities over the internet. A student recording, either saved in Read Naturally Live or sent to the teacher by some other means, can also be graded as a remote hot timing.

Reviewing the Story Details Report for the Student's Current Story:
Before clicking the Login button to open a Login As session, a teacher can quickly review the student's performance on the current story.

  1. On the Waiting List or the Read Naturally Live page, under the Current Story column, click the Details button for the student.
The Story Details report opens, displaying the student's recent work. The Last Login Date at the top of the report displays the last time the student worked on the current story.
  2. Review the student's progress as needed.
  3. Click the Back button to return to the Read Naturally Live page.
