1. What is Read Naturally Live—Español?

Read Naturally Live—Español is the Spanish-language version of Read Naturally Live. It contains the same story content as the early levels of our Sequenced Series, translated into Spanish. The student interface is in Spanish to facilitate easier use by native Spanish speakers. Read Naturally Live—Español has all the familiar steps of Read Naturally Live: Key Words, Prediction, Cold Timing, Read Along, and so forth.

2. Who is Read Naturally Live—Español intended for?

Read Naturally Live—Español was primarily developed to build the fluency of native Spanish-speaking students within the context of American schools. Studies indicate that addressing fluency deficits in one’s native language may be more effective than doing so in a second language, and therefore this tool may be particularly helpful for Spanish-speaking EL students.

Further, the simple, researched-based strategies used in the program will provide benefits to anyone who needs to develop fluency in Spanish.

3. What reading levels are available in Read Naturally Live—Español?

In the first release, the program contains levels 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5. These roughly equate to first- and second-grade reading levels. By late Spring 2021, the content will be expanded to include levels 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5. Further expansion of content levels is possible, but not planned at this time.

4. How do I place my students in Read Naturally Live—Español?

We have not yet incorporated Spanish content into our placement program, so teachers should place students based on their existing knowledge of their students’ abilities. The goal is to challenge students without it being overly frustrating. If a student can read 25–55 words per minute for their cold timing of a story and answer the quiz questions with a score of 60% or higher, the level is likely a good fit for that student. Set a goal for the student that is 30–40 words higher than their cold-timing score. Then after a few stories, review the student’s scores and make placement adjustments if the student’s Cold Timing and/or Quiz score are significantly different from the scores of the first story.

5. How do I buy Read Naturally Live—Español?

Read Naturally Live—Español is included at no extra charge with Read Live. Simply buy the number of Read Live licenses required to suit your student load. Then you can assign the appropriate intervention(s) to your students from within the Read Live interface.

Note: Currently, Read Naturally Live—Español is provided as a series within Read Naturally Live, alongside our Sequenced, Phonics, and Idioms series. By late Spring 2021, Read Naturally Live—Español will be updated to be its own program within Read Live, allowing teachers to assign both English AND Spanish interventions concurrently.

6. What supporting materials are available for Read Naturally Live—Español?

  • Remind students of the steps with our Read Naturally Live—Español Steps Poster.
  • Communicate with Spanish-speaking parents using our Spanish Welcome Letter.
  • All strategy suggestions and support provided on our website are applicable to Read Naturally Live—Español. The language has changed, but the strategy and research basis remain the same.
  • Student performance data is viewable in both Spanish and English on the Review Work page while logged into the Student Module, so teachers can review performance with their students. At this time however, reporting in the Teacher Module is in English only. To print performance data in Spanish, we recommend taking a screen shot while viewing the Review Work page in the Student Module, then printing the screenshot using a different program.
