We have recently discovered an issue involving the use of Read Live on iPads running iOS 15.4. We are evaluating this problem and are working with Apple on a resolution.

April 12, 2022:

We have now released our resolution to this issue. Our updated iPad app (version 3.3.1) is now available in the Apple App Store. All users experiencing issues with frozen audio in the Read Along step should update to the latest iPad app to resolve the issue.

April 6, 2022:

Read Naturally has developed and tested a solution to this issue. This update is scheduled to be released on Saturday, April 9, 2022. After this release, customers will need to update to the latest Read Live iPad app for the solution to take effect.

April 1, 2022:

Apple has released another iOS update (15.4.1), but they did not address the audio issue in this update as hoped. We have developed our own solution to resolve the problem, and this update to Read Live is currently in testing. Our planned release date for this update is mid-April.

We will continue to post updates to this article as new information becomes available.

March 24, 2022:

In this latest release of iOS (15.4), Apple changed the way they handle audio files. As a result, audio in the Read-Along step of our programs can freeze, causing a student to be unable to complete this step. This affects the Read-Along step in all Read Live programs: Read Naturally Live, Read Naturally Live—Español, Word Warm-ups Live, and One Minute Reader Live.

This problem only affects the very latest version of iOS (15.4). It does not affect any previous versions of the operating system.

If you have already updated and cannot roll back to an earlier version of iOS, the current workarounds include:

  • Read Naturally Live and Read Naturally Live-Español :
    • Setting the Read-Along speed to "Expressive" in Story Options will reduce the frequency of this error.
    • Turning off the Read-Along step in Story Options will skip this step entirely.
  • One Minute Reader Live: Setting the “Required Read-Alongs” setting to zero and instructing students to skip the Read-Along step.
  • There is no workaround for Word Warm-ups Live at this point, other than instructing students to not select the Story exercise.

We apologize for any inconvenience this issue causes and will be working diligently to resolve it.
