Comprehension gives the act of reading a purpose and opens the door to enjoyment of reading. Indeed, deriving meaning from text is why we bother reading at all! Yet comprehension can be a struggle for any student, but often it’s especially challenging for multilingual students. What can we do to set them up for success in Read Naturally Live and Read Naturally Live—Español?

Each year, the United States celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. This heritage month recognizes Hispanic Americans and their ancestors for their contributions to the history, culture, and achievements of our country. We at Read Naturally are honored to celebrate Hispanic Americans and their ancestors. Many Hispanic American students are multilingual learners for whom Spanish is their primary language. To meet these students’ needs, we developed Read Naturally Live—Español.

Millions of K-12 students across the United States are English Learners (ELs). The majority of these students identify Spanish as their home language. Year after year, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Average Scores for Reading and Mathematics are significantly lower for students who are identified as ELs, in comparison to their peers who are not. It makes sense that limited English proficiency would have an impact on academic achievement where the language of instruction is English. So, what can we do to best support EL students?

Over the past couple of years, we've made several enhancements to Read Live. We've added new programs, new content, and new features with the intention of helping as many students as possible succeed. All Read Live users have access to these enhancements at no additional cost. Are you aware of everything available to you as a Read Live user?

The 2021-22 school year is fast approaching, and our curriculum and development teams are hard at work making important improvements to Read Live. We’ve added several features and enhancements in the past few weeks. Here are some of the most important updates in the most recent Read Live releases:

Read Live includes four highly effective instructional programs designed to deliver measurable results for struggling and developing readers of all ages. We recently recorded five new webinars, providing an overview of Read Live as well as the basics for each of the four programs: Read Naturally Live, Word Warm-ups Live, One Minute Reader Live, and Read Naturally Live—Español. Check out these 30-minute presentations for a better understanding of Read Live and additional details on each of the four instructional programs.

Over the past year, we’ve added three new curriculum options and developed several new features to better support distance learning with Read Live. We’ve also updated content, added support for Google (G Suite) for Education, and developed more resources for training and support. Read Live is better than ever!

Our popular student training videos are now available in Spanish! Teach your students how to do the steps of Read Naturally Live—Español with this new video series.

Read Naturally Live–Español is now available to all Read Live users! Here are some resources to help you get the most from the new program.

The Spanish version of Read Naturally Live was released this past weekend, and is now available to all Read Live users at no additional cost. The initial release will include four levels of the Sequenced series (1.0–2.5) with 24 stories per level. Levels 3.0–4.5 will be added in Spring 2021.
