Read Naturally Live—Español

1. What is Read Naturally Live—Español?

Read Naturally Live—Español is the Spanish-language version of Read Naturally Live. It contains the same story content as the early levels of our Sequenced Series, translated into Spanish. The student interface is in Spanish to facilitate easier use by native Spanish speakers. Read Naturally Live—Español has all the familiar steps of Read Naturally Live: Key Words, Prediction, Cold Timing, Read Along, and so forth.

2. Who is Read Naturally Live—Español intended for?

Read Naturally Live—Español was primarily developed to build the fluency of native Spanish-speaking students within the context of American schools. Studies indicate that addressing fluency deficits in one’s native language may be more effective than doing so in a second language, and therefore this tool may be particularly helpful for Spanish-speaking EL students.

Further, the simple, researched-based strategies used in the program will provide benefits to anyone who needs to develop fluency in Spanish.

3. What reading levels are available in Read Naturally Live—Español?

Read Naturally Live—Español contains levels 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, and 5.6. The content will be expanded to include levels 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0 in the future.

4. How do I place my students in Read Naturally Live—Español?

We have not yet incorporated Spanish content into our placement program, so teachers should place students based on their existing knowledge of their students’ abilities. The goal is to challenge students without it being overly frustrating. If a student can read 25–55 words per minute for their cold timing of a story and answer the quiz questions with a score of 60% or higher, the level is likely a good fit for that student. Set a goal for the student that is 30–40 words higher than their cold-timing score. Then after a few stories, review the student’s scores and make placement adjustments if the student’s Cold Timing and/or Quiz score are significantly different from the scores of the first story.
