1. Is the read-along audio available in MP3 or any other digital format?

No. Our audio is only available in audio CD format (and in some cases, audio cassette format as well), and is only licensed for use in that format. However, if you would like to use the audio in a digital format, please contact our customer service team at 1.800.788.4085. We can offer you an amended agreement that will allow you to convert the audio CDs for use on digital devices.

2. Are the stories available in PDF format?

Read Naturally Encore reproducible masters are only available in printed format. If you’re looking to speed up the process of making copies, we suggest making a set of copy masters from your printed book to use for quick and easy copying. However, if you are looking for a way to adapt the program for visually impaired students, our Resources for Blind and Visually Impaired Students materials provide a way to easily adapt the Masters Edition program.

3. Can I get replacement batteries for the timers?

Yes. Read Naturally sells batteries for the Standard Electronic Timers (RN1070) and the Basic One Minute Timers (RN1073). To order, go to the Timers category in the Accessories section of the Read Naturally website. The Words-Per-Minute Timers (RN1072) use standard AAA batteries.

4. Can I order replacement CDs?

Yes. Please see the Accessories section of our website for Encore and ME replacement materials.

5. Can I get replacement blackline/reproducible masters?

Yes. Please see the Accessories section of our website for Encore and Masters Edition replacements.

6. I have one set of Read Naturally materials but I want to use it in two classrooms. Can I order an entire level of replacement cassettes or audio CDs and just make copies of the blackline masters?

No. The copyright of the blackline/reproducible masters allows for use in a single classroom only. A second set of materials will need to be purchased for the second classroom.

7. I have an older version of Read Naturally. Can I order new CDs and use them with my existing stories?

Our stories have seen many updates throughout the years. To ensure the story text and audio matches, we recommend that you purchase a complete set of the latest version, Read Naturally Encore. We do have individual replacements for some of the older versions available on the Accessories section of our website as well.

8. How can I make sure my Read Naturally materials and equipment last a long time?

Many schools set up a checkout program for their equipment. If a student knows they’ll be held accountable for the condition of the equipment when it is returned, they are more likely to take personal responsibility for its care. Always keep CDs and cassettes in a case, and use a soft cloth and water to gently clean CDs when they become dirty. If you are concerned about your booklets or CDs becoming damaged, we recommend making a single backup copy of these materials to be filed away and accessed in case of loss or damage. Of course, you can also purchase replacements as necessary from the Accessories section of our website.

9. How do I know if my Read Naturally ME cassettes or audio CDs have the latest audio?

To determine whether your Read Naturally Masters Edition cassettes or audio CDs have the most recent version of the audio, perform these steps:

Step 1: Does your audio CD or cassette have a copyright date of 2002 or earlier printed on it? If so, you do not have the most recent version of audio. Please contact us for a replacement audio level.

Step 2: Check the back of your blackline master. On blackline masters printed after 2005, there is a code on the bottom of the back cover. The first part of the code is the product number, and the second part is the print date. For example, the code “1010 – 05/07” means that the product number is RN1010 (Masters Edition Level 1.0), and the print date was May 2007. This print date corresponds with the version of audio that it accompanies. Please refer to the chart below for the last revision date of audio. If the print date on your blackline master is before the date listed below, you do not have the most updated version of the audio. Please contact us for replacement discs or a replacement level.

10. Is it possible to record on your story cassettes?

Yes and no. While we take precautions to safeguard against our stories being recorded over, as with anything in life, it is possible.

But first, what we have done to safeguard against this potential problem: We manufacture the cassettes with just this issue in mind. The cassettes that are produced for us have openings in the top of them. This opening prevents a lever in the cassette recorder from recording on the cassette.

However, there are situations where this safeguard is not enough and the cassettes can be recorded on. This recording can happen if the opening in the top of the cassette is filled with wadded up paper or covered with tape.

This recording can also happen if the cassette recorder you use does not have the safety lever that was mentioned above. Most cassette recorders do have this lever, and the ones we sell at Read Naturally most certainly do.

11. Do you have any suggestions for keeping students from taping over cassettes and losing the batteries for tape recorders?

Many teachers find that numbering tape recorders and assigning them to the students helps them to take care of the equipment. You may also want to design a check-out program for the cassettes. Although the cassettes have tabs punched out to prevent recording over, students have been known to cover the holes or find other ways to get around the precautions we've taken.
