Scheduled backups recommended to protect student data

One of the strengths of the Read Naturally Software Edition (SE) is its ability to automatically store students’ results and view it in reports. Because this data gives valuable insights into students’ progress and needs, it’s important to safeguard it by backing up the data on a regular basis.

Read Naturally SE includes an automated backup utility in its database utilities that makes the backup process as painless as possible. This backup utility will automatically save up to seven backup files, one for each day of the week, before overwriting previous backup files.

All you do is set up the backup schedule once and the data is automatically backed up at the time and on the days you specify. (Read Naturally recommends scheduling daily backups.)

The backups should be stored in a safe location outside of the Read Naturally SE directory structure. For additional safety, it’s also a good idea to periodically copy the backups to a tape, CD, or other media to guard against a hard drive failure.

If the unthinkable occurs, you can restore the data from the most recent backup to minimize the data loss.

Procedures for scheduling backups are included in the Read Naturally SE Software Guide. The software guide is available as a free download:
