How to send the SE database files to Read Naturally

For some kinds of problems, you must send the SE database files to Read Naturally technical support so they can fix it for you. For example, there may be duplicate passwords in the database, or maybe you cannot remember the administrator password. Because this requires that you stop the SE server component, you should only do this when no one is using the SE software.

To send the SE database files from a Windows server:

  1. Stop the RNSEServer service on the Windows server computer by performing these steps:
    1. Choose Start > Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services.
    2. In the list of services, right-click RNSEServer and choose Stop.
  2. As a precaution, make backup copies of the rn.dat and rn.vdb files, which are usually located in the folder My Computer\Local Disk (C:)\Program Files\RNSEServer\RNSEServer\Databases. (For example, copy the files to the desktop of the computer.)
  3. Compress the rn.dat and rn.vdb files using a compression utility such as WinZip.
  4. Email the compressed file to support@readnaturally.com. In the body of the email, describe the problem you are having.

To send the SE database files from a Mac OS X server:

  1. Stop the RNSEServer service on the Mac OS X server computer by performing these steps:
    1. Open the folder Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities and double-click Activity Monitor.
    2. From the Activity Monitor menu, choose Show Activity Monitor.
    3. Make sure All Processes is selected (not My Processes).
    4. Choose RNSEServer in the list of processes, click Quit Process, and then click Force Quit.
  2. As a precaution, make backup copies of the rn.dat and rn.vdb files, which are typically located in the folder Macintosh HD\Library\RNSEServer\Databases. (For example, copy the files to the desktop of the computer.)
  3. Compress the rn.dat and rn.vdb files using a compression utility such as StuffIt.
  4. Email the compressed file to support@readnaturally.com. In the body of the email, describe the problem you are having.
