Installation of SE client software fails on Mac OS X: administrator privileges required

Operating System: Mac OS X

SE Versions: SE 2.0.3 Network, SE 2.1 Network Plus

Symptoms:
When attempting to install SE client software on Mac OS X computers, the installation fails with the message, "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges."

Solution:
When you connect to the server from the client workstation, you need to include smb:// before the IP address or name of the server:

  1. Choose Connect to Server from the Go menu.
  2. Enter smb:// followed by the IP address or name of the server (for example smb://10.0.0.1), and then click Connect.
  3. Log in with a name/password that has access privileges to the server.
  4. Continue with the installation.
