SE Support for Intel-Powered Macintosh Computers
Apple's newest Macintosh computers have switched their hardware platform from PowerPC to Intel processors. Older applications were not created to run natively on this new platform. To address this, Apple created their own application called Rosetta that runs in the background of all of their new Intel-based computers. According to Apple, "Rosetta dynamically translates most of your PowerPC-based applications to work with your Intel-based Mac."
To accommodate a wide range of hardware platforms, Read Naturally uses a database application and development software from third-party vendors. Until these vendors certified their products on Intel-based Macs, Read Naturally could not officially support Read Naturally Software Edition (SE) running on Intel-based Macs, even though we have not experienced any problems running SE on this platform. Apple also states that most PowerPC applications will run on an Intel-based Mac.
UPDATE (August 2007): SE Network Plus (version 2.1.x) supports universal binary and thus operates in native mode, bypassing the Rosetta emulator. SE Network Plus is fully compatible with Intel-powered Macs. More about SE Network Plus
UPDATE (January 2008): The latest version of SE Stand-Alone (version 2.1.x) supports Macintosh computers with Intel processors. To download the latest update for SE Stand-Alone, go to the Updates & Downloads page.
