Can I convert a stand-alone version of Read Naturally SE to a network version and save my existing student data?

Yes. You install the network version of the software on the servers and workstations; set up the teachers, classes, and students in the network version; and then copy the student data from the stand-alone computers to the server. Follow these steps:

  1. Install the network version of Read Naturally SE on the server. (See the Installation Guide for details.)
  2. Install Read Naturally SE on one of the client workstations. (See the Installation Guide for details.)
  3. Log on to the network version of the Teacher Management System.
    1. Set up one or more teachers, one or more classes, and all of the students that currently have data on stand-alone computers.
    2. From the Students window, write down the students' names and ID numbers that Read Naturally assigned to each of them.
  4. From each stand-alone computer:
    1. Log on to the Teacher Management System.
    2. Open the Student window, and write down the student ID numbers on the same list you started in step 3b. (You need to know the old and new ID numbers for each student.)
  5. Move the student folders from each of the stand-alone computers to the server. For each stand-alone computer:
    1. Find the Read Naturally folder on the stand-alone computer. On Windows computers it is in the Program Files folder on the C: drive. On Macintosh computers, it is in the first level of the hard drive or in the Applications folder.
    2. Open the Read Naturally folder, and inside that, open the Data folder, and inside that, open the Students folder.
    3. In the Students folder, find the folder with the student ID number you wrote down in step 4b (the "old" stand-alone number).
    4. Move the numbered folder to the RN Server folder on the server (which was created when you installed Read Naturally SE in step 1), and change the number of the folder to the network version's student ID number from step 3b.
    5. Repeat steps a through d for each student you are moving from the stand-alone version to the network version.
  6. Move all of the renumbered folders from the RN Server folder to the \RN Server\Data\Students folder. Confirm that you want to overwrite the existing folders by clicking Yes.

All students from the stand-alone version should now be in the network version of Read Naturally SE with the data from their previous work.
