Why isn't the "rnse" password working?

First check to make sure that you are in the Teacher Management application (blue screen), not the Student Stories application.

  • To start Teacher Management on a Windows PC, choose Start > Programs > Read Naturally > Teacher Management.
  • To start Teacher Management on a Mac, open the Macintosh hard drive (HD), then the Read Naturally folder, and then double-click Teacher Management.

If you have confirmed that you are in Teacher Management and the "rnse" password is still not working, someone may have previously set up a teacher password. Once a teacher password is set up, the rnse password no longer works. Find out what teacher password has been created and use it to log on.

If no teacher password has been set up and you cannot log on to Teacher Management with the rnse password, this usually is the result of a networking setup issue.

To fix a networking issue when using Windows:

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and check if you have a drive letter mapped to the location of the shared folder (RN Server) you set up when you installed Read Naturally. (see the installation instructions). If not, you must map a drive as described in the Installation Guide.
  2. Once you have a drive letter mapped, open the RN Server folder on your server, and then open the RNInst0612 file in Notepad. Make sure the drive letter and path specified in the file matches the location of the RN Server folder. Make corrections if necessary and save the file.
  3. Start Teacher Management and try the rnse password again.
  4. On each workstation, choose Start > Programs > Read Naturally > Uninstall to uninstall Read Naturally SE.
  5. Re-install Read Naturally SE by opening the RN Server folder on your server and double-clicking InstallWkstnWin.exe.

To fix a networking issue when using Mac OS 9:

  1. Check to make sure the network drive volume for Read Naturally is mounted on your desktop.
  2. Open your Macintosh hard drive (HD), open the Read Naturally folder, and then double-click Client Management Launch. This program walks you through setting the path back to the RN Server folder on your server drive.
  3. You will be prompted to start the Teacher Management program. When you start Teacher Management, try to log on with the rnse password.
