Why is each story on the cassette or audio CD three times?
The cassettes and audio CDs for the Read Naturally Masters Edition include three recordings of each story. The first recording is played at the speed at which it was originally recorded. The second recording plays 7.5 percent faster than the original, and the third recording plays 15 percent faster then the original.
The increasing speeds allow the student to read along the second and third times at slightly faster speeds because they will naturally read more quickly the second and third times. In the cassette version, students also spend more time reading because they don't have to rewind the cassettes. The three recordings also make the program easier for younger students, who may have a harder time using the equipment and remembering how many times to read along.
