More Evidence of Read Naturally's Effectiveness
By Tom Ihnot, Chief Executive Officer of Read Naturally
The lead story in the August 2009 newsletter summarizes a well-designed study conducted by Dr. Ted Christ of the University of Minnesota. He will be submitting the study to What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) for their review.
Currently, WWC has posted reviews of studies where there have been problems concerning the purpose of a study, the implementation of a study, and alignment of assessment measures with the instructional objectives.
The purpose of the Christ study was to evaluate the Read Naturally software program. Teachers in the study were trained in appropriate implementation procedures, and fidelity checks were conducted. The study was also carefully designed to ensure that the assessments were aligned with the instructional objectives of the Read Naturally strategy.
Another well-designed study conducted in the Boston schools during the 2007-2008 school year shows very positive results using the Read Naturally software program. We expect to share a summary of the Boston results with you later this fall.
Over the past 18 years, we have continually worked to enhance our existing products and to develop new products that accelerate the reading achievement of developing and struggling readers. We are dedicated to developing simple, effective systems that enable teachers and students to tackle complex tasks with greater ease.
We appreciate the feedback that Read Naturally teachers have provided. Your suggestions and ideas have helped shape the Read Naturally programs that have yielded the excellent results both in Ted Christ’s University of Minnesota study and the Boston study.
