Read Naturally Updates Placement Procedure

Read Naturally has fine-tuned the placement procedures for its flagship fluency programs, Read Naturally Masters Edition and Read Naturally Software Edition.

These are some of the key changes in the placement procedures:

  • Sequenced series stories are now used for all placement testing, regardless of which type of curriculum the student will ultimately work with.
  • Selecting the curriculum is now an explicit part of the placement process. Once the level is determined, a table of curriculum options is provided (i.e., Sequenced, Phonics, Spanish, American Manners & Customs, Idioms, or Multicultural).
  • In the placement table, we have added separate guidelines for placement in level 8.0.
  • We now recommend testing beginning readers with the level 1.0 story and placing according to the standard guidelines. (Their goal is set by adding 30 to their placement score.) If their score falls below the range of 30 to 60 wcpm, beginning readers may still be able to use Read Naturally level .8 or 1.0 if they know beginning sounds and can recognize roughly 50 words.

Customers using the Masters Edition can get full details about the new placement procedure by downloading the latest Placement Packet from the Document Center page of the Read Naturally website.

These adjustments have been included in the latest version of Read Naturally SE, version 2.1.
