Company Read Naturally Teacher Receives Literary Award
Read Naturally teacher Elaine Balum of Danville, Pa., was recently honored with a literary award from the Susquehanna Valley (Pa.) Reading Council.
Balum, a reading specialist at Danville Middle School, is a strong advocate for the Read Naturally programs in her school district.
“It’s a very strong comprehension program,” Balum said. “We have had tremendous success with it. This is my ninth year using it, and I’m convinced it’s the best for our students.”
Balum’s school superintendent Steve Keifer gives some of the credit to Balum.
“Her energy level and enthusiasm for the teaching profession is unparalleled,” Keifer said. “There is no teacher I know who is more committed to providing all the skills which students need to be successful.”
Balum used the prize money from the award to purchase a Jeopardy-based game that she has incorporated into the curriculum.
