We hear from Read Naturally users all the time, and we love it! Sometimes it’s a quick message about their success or how they feel about our products. Other times it’s something a little more unique. I’d like to share with you one of the more unique things that a teacher using Read Naturally has shared with us. Is anyone else in the mood for a tune?
This comes from Lynette Bachman of Eureka School District in Goodfield, IL:
A couple years ago I decided to add a little zest to the closing of our Read Naturally time. That’s when I came up with my song, “You’ve Got to Keep on Reading”. We sing it at the end of each session. Our voices can be heard throughout the halls and there can be no doubt that we are having a fantastic time! The song has progressed over the last couple years and has become a standard for our Read Naturally time. Students use movements and hand motions for each part. As they are putting away their materials, we are singing the song and students quickly finish their task at hand to join in.
Last year I had a group of mostly boys in one of my groups. I was a little concerned that they may not respond to the song as I would hope. They immediately thought of the idea of jumping up to show just how high their graphs could go! They’ve been hooked ever since! Some of them even add a little “Yee Haw” to the end! As long as they are enjoying their time working with the program, are making progress, and leaving with such huge smiles on their faces – I’m all for it!
I’m all for it too, Lynette. Thanks so much for sharing your song with us. Here are the lyrics with sheet music for “You’ve Got to Keep on Reading.”
